Montana Pulse Day to be Held in Great Falls Posted on 1/28/2010
The Northern Pulse Growers Association will hold its first annual Montana Pulse Day in Great Falls, Montana on February 16, 2010. Montana Pulse Day is a key event where producers, industry representatives, researchers and crop insurance representatives will gather to share the latest information within the pulse industry.
The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with registration and a mini-trade show featuring pulse related companies. At 10:00 a.m. an educational workshop will begin with Dr. Perry Miller, Montana State University featuring the topic "Why Aren't You Growing Pulse Crops?" Following is a discussion by Dr. Kevin McPhee, North Dakota State University and Chengci Chen, Central Ag Research Center, Montana State University. Highlights of their discussions will be "Breeding Pulse Crops for the Northern Plains" and MSU Research and State Variety Trails".
In the afternoon the focus will be on marketing pulse crops. Pete Klaiber, International Marketing Director for the USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council in Moscow, ID will kick off the afternoon with a talk on international and domestic marketing. In addition the group will hear from area pulse producers including several Northern Pulse Growers Association board members. The day will conclude with market information from area processors.
